I saw this video a few years ago of Japanese kids setting (crushing) the world record for skipping rope.
It reminded me a bit of childhood when I was on the Alabama team that defeated all the other states at the National MATHCOUNTS competition. It was a process that took dedicated practice of several skill sets, and in conjunction with other people (we were the only team to score perfect on the Team Round, which was necessary to edge out Massachusetts and California).
While breaking a record or winning a championship is not necessary, ultimately, kids have the energy to commit to a few adventures that they can build on. They can be mental or physical, but are always spiritual and emotional.
Help your kid find some adventure to get involved in, raise to a higher level, and use as a stepping stone for all other disciplined activities. Such adventures are necessary for building independence, wealth, and a healthy perspective on life.
